5 Things Yoga Can’t Do for You.

5 Things Yoga Can’t Do for You

Everyone has these unrealistic beliefs about what yoga can do for them. As fascinating as some of these beliefs and assumptions are, many are invalid.

To prevent you and your expectations of yoga from failing you, do yourself a favor and don’t believe everything you hear and see. If you do, you may quit too soon or feel discouraged; we don’t want that. So,  here are five things yoga can’t do for you.

1. Just Lose Weight

If you decide to practice yoga only to lose weight, don’t! Weight loss is a benefit that happens over time  when practicing yoga and should not be the sole reason you pick up this holistic practice.

Instead of practicing yoga, think of weight lifting, doing a sport, and eating healthier. Don’t practice yoga  to lose weight or you’ll be heavily disappointed.

2. Rid of Boredom/Restlessness

Yoga can’t get rid of your boredom or restlessness. Yoga is a practice that should be done with an  instructor or an experienced yogi. Don’t practice it to pass the time or make time go by faster, as it may  result in injury.

Yoga is just that, a practice, and should be done in increments. With time, poses become more tolerable  and some poses are easier to practice. However, yoga is an ever-ending practice since there is always  room for improvement. So don’t practice this out of restlessness.

3. Makes you Trendy/Popular

Yoga is trending. There is no denying this. When you go onto your social media, you may see a post  where someone mentions or is practicing yoga. As trendy as yoga may be, don’t do it just because it’s  popular or looks easy.

Yoga isn’t easy and requires dedication, an open mind, and tolerance for being uncomfortable. If you  don’t like being in poses for too long or are not interested in doing the pose for long, then yoga isn’t for  you. Don’t practice yoga to be popular because you may grow to dislike such a beautiful practice. Instead,  practice yoga because you want to and are curious about what yoga can do for you.

4. Do Cool Stunts

So many yoga poses look cool, right? Right! However, many of these poses took, if not months, ears to  get into and perfect. The crazy thing is the yogis who practice these cool poses still have ways to go.  Yoga can’t make you do cool stunts...at least not right away.

Don’t practice yoga to look or feel cool since this could lead to serious injury. Many cool poses require  time, much practice, and an instructor, so you are practicing these poses correctly from the start. Yoga is very cool, indeed. However, never try an advanced pose without proper guidance,  instruction and practice.

5. Make all Your Problems Go Away

Lastly, yoga can’t make all your problems go away. Unfortunately, life will always bring you problems.  Problems never completely disappear, even when you practice advanced yoga. If anything, the way you  handle your problem changes.

Yoga does improve moves and reduce stress and anxiety. However, don’t mistake that for you not  experiencing problems ever again. Yoga gives you the tools to observe, be present, and breathe through  any and every situation life throws at you. Don’t practice yoga to rid of your

problems, but you help solve them more mindfully.

Yoga can’t do a lot for you. This is very true. If you were under the impression that yoga can make you  look cool or lose weight, think twice because you are in it for the wrong reasons. Instead, practice yoga  because you want to, and it feels right. Once you figure out your “why” for yoga, you will only stay with  this ancient practice in the long run and reap what yoga can truly do for you.
