Yoga and Spirituality: 5 Things You Probably  Didn’t Know

Yoga and Spirituality: 5 Things You Probably  Didn’t Know

Have you ever thought of using yoga and spirituality together? Acknowledging and incorporating the two will improve our well-being and our daily lives by embracing both.

There are benefits to practicing yoga. There are also benefits to practicing spirituality (this includes religious practice). However, how often are yoga and spirituality practiced together?  Before we answer this, here are five things you didn’t know about yoga and spirituality and how  you can use them interconnected:

1.) Yoga and Chakras

The word chakras mean “wheel” in Sanskrit. They symbolize the flow of energy in your body.  Technically speaking, you have hundreds of chakras, yet the focus tends to be only on seven.  The seven chakras are energy centers and are widely known to regulate our emotions.

No matter what religion you believe in or how you practice your spirituality, chakras are present within you whether you acknowledge them or not. So whether you are healing your heart chakra or root chakra, there are yoga practices online and in person that focus on a chakra or multiple.

Working and healing your chakras during yoga raises your vibrations and makes space for love,  peace, and grounding in your daily lives—this is one way to practice spirituality.

2.) Yoga and Meditation

Yoga and meditation are commonly used together. Many instructors dedicate time to meditation  during their classes. However, you can use yoga as a form of meditation. For example, when you  focus on your breathing, you are centering yourself by making space for your mind, body, and  spirit. Likewise, spirituality creates space for your mental, emotional, and spirit.

Next time you practice yoga, meditate to get closer to YOU and to what you believe in/ your  religious practice.

3.) Yoga and Healing/Emotional Release

To be spiritual and religious is to heal and emotionally release your traumas. Yoga has been  known to do this for centuries. Under the right instructor and practice, yoga can heal your mind  and physical injuries, help with depression, improve your strength, and much more.

Yoga practices are structured to help you emotionally release anxiety, stress, and even traumas.  In addition, yoga and spirituality can heal you in so many ways when practiced together.

4.) Yoga and Sleep

We use sleep to heal ourselves, rest, connect to loved ones who transitioned, and observe our  subconscious. Sleep is a way to connect to spirit and make space for our religious practices.  When practicing yoga for better sleep, you can also use this same practice for spirituality.

Softer and slower practices like Yin Yoga before bedtime is a perfect way to prepare for a good  night's rest. A lack of sleep is one way of blocking your power, your intuition, and your  creativity.

5.) Divine Feminine/Masculine Energy

No matter how you practice your spirituality/ religious practice, we all have divine feminine and  divine masculine energy. This awareness brings us closer to what we believe in, and yoga makes  space for this.

Practicing any yoga flow can get you where you feel most connected to your divine energy. This  space will allow you room to connect to your religion, spirit, and universe.

So, how often are yoga and spirituality practiced together? Did you know there are so many  ways that we could? It doesn’t matter who you are or what you believe in. You can connect  spiritually during each yoga practice.
