Acclimate to even the most unpleasant conditions
One element that attracted me to hot yoga was cleansing and satisfying and refreshing experience of expelling massive amounts of sweat from my body.
Reflecting on my very first class, in that ninety minutes, I could literally feel my pores cleansing and stress releasing. There was so much sweat, the blue dye ran right out of my shorts and stained my towel.
It was glorious. Few other forms of exercise offer me that unique experience.
Of course, many people avoid hot yoga for this very reason. The sloppiness of the practice triggers their inner germaphobe and the lack of personal space offends their sense of order.
Which makes sense. Nobody enjoys getting sweat flung into their eye from a half-naked stranger. At least, not during yoga ;)
But if you ask people who are committed to the practice, while they might not love the sweat, they do accept it. Maybe even look forward to it. Maybe even miss it when it’s been a few days or a few weeks since their last practice.
It sounds a bit gross, but if hot yoga teaches us anything, it’s the ability of the human mind and body to acclimate to even the most unpleasant conditions.
What is something you used to think was impossible, that has now become strangely enjoyable?
